I stumbled across this article today and I must say, they really are stooping to a new low! Anyone who has read articles about Colorado and all the wonderful good that Marijuana has brought to the state knows this is a load of crock. Leave it to USA Today to push more bullshit on sheepole to make them continue to fear a harmless plant.
“In the years since, Colorado has seen an increase in marijuana related traffic deaths, poison control calls, and emergency room visits. The marijuana black market has increased in Colorado, not decreased. And, numerous Colorado marijuana regulators have been indicted for corruption.” WTF! Where do they get their numbers from? MARS?! This is ridiculous!
Here is the truth about that matter! Believe it or not, there was no change in the number of marijuana users in Colorado between 2014 and 2015 after legalization of the sale of recreational cannabis went into effect. At least that’s what Colorado’s Retail Marijuana Public Advisory Committee reported in their latest research on the effects of marijuana on public health. They also found that calls to poison centers for exposure to marijuana and emergency room visits continue to fall.
USA Today: “In fiscal year 2016, marijuana tax revenue resulted in $156,701,018. The total tax revenue for Colorado was $13,327,123,798, making marijuana only 1.18% of the state’s total tax revenue. The cost of marijuana legalization in public awareness campaigns, law enforcement, health-care treatment, addiction recovery, and preventative work is an unknown cost to date.”
Actual Truth: The State Department of Public Safety also reported that the number of marijuana arrests nearly halved, down by 46% between 2012 and 2014. Moreover, Colorado has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country, and the legal marijuana industry has certainly helped by adding 18,000 new full-time jobs in 2015 according to the Marijuana Policy Group. Perhaps the most significant benefit to the state is tax receipts, as Colorado received $198.5 million in tax revenue last year from marijuana sales of $1.3 Billion. And the state has pulled in $506 million since retail sales began in January 2014.
USA Today “According to the Colorado Department of Public Safety, arrests in Colorado of black and Latino youth for marijuana possession have increased 58% and 29% respectively after legalization. This means that Black and Latino youth are being arrested more for marijuana possession after it became legal.”
As for crime in the state as a whole, the State Department of Public Safety put out a 143-page report last year. They found that the number of marijuana arrests dropped by 46% between 2012 and 2014, and that “marijuana possession arrests, which make up the majority of all marijuana arrests, were nearly cut in half (-47%).” Marijuana accounted for 6% of all arrests in 2012 and 3% in 2014.
So my question is for Jeff Hunt is the Vice President of Public Policy at Colorado Christian University, What in the actual fuck? Do you honestly believe the lies you are trying to spread or are you just getting lots of pocket money to say these things? Because a quick Google search will prove you other wise. Are you so afraid of legalization because you think that your kids will start smoking? Seriously, why are you trying to scare people with obvious lies? You have millions of people reading this paper and your only trying to push more fear into their minds and propaganda that should not be allowed to be said. So I close this with a BIG OLE FUCK YOU JEFF HUNT!
